Americas Music Festivals 2011
67Keeping track of all the music festivals out there isn't easy. Attending the ones with your favorite bands, your best friends, and during a time when your available and have spending money is even more difficult. This is why I have created this festival guide that will help you plan out your next music festival.
10,000 Lakes Festival - Detroit Lakes, Minnesota - Next Date (Hiatus)
This four-day festival has over 50 bands and 5 stages. The concert promoters sell music only tickets, music and camping tickets, and VIP music and camping tickets. Single-day tickets are also available, but the greatest value comes in purchasing the 4 day ticket for only 45 dollars more. 2009 headliners include: Dave Matthews Band, Wilco, and Widespread Panic.
The Bamboozle - Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey - Next Date (April 29 - May 1, 2011)
This three-day festival started in 2003 and has since expanded to other venues with The Bamboozle Roadshow. The U.S Roadshow starts on May 4th and ends on June 10th. This years performers for the New Jersey venue include: 30 Seconds To Mars, Wiz Khalifa, Taking Back Sunday, Lil Wayne, Bruno Mars, Motley Crue, and over a hundred more.
Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival - Manchester, Tennessee - Next Date (June 9 - 12, 2011)
This four-day festival continues to grow each and every year. Last year over 100 bands performed, with many non-musical celebrities making appearances as well. This years headliners include: Eminem, Widespread Panic, Arcade Fire, and The Black Keys.
Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival - Indio, California - Next Date (April 15 - 17, 2011)
This three-day festival is one of the most well-known in the nation. Over 100 bands play during this April festival. This years headliners include: Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire, Kanye West, Interpol, and Mumford & Sons.
Family Values Tour - Nationwide - Hiatus
The Family Values Tour was founded by Korn and caters to fans of rock, metal, rap, and punk music. There have been five tours ('98, '99, '01, '06, and '07). Performers over recent years have included: Stone Temple Pilots, Linkin Park, Puddle of Mudd, Staind, Stone Sour, Flyleaf, Evanescence, Atreyu, and much more. Korn headlines the entire tour. Although the Family Values Tour has been on hiatus since 2007, there have been rumors that the tour will return soon.
Lollapalooza - Grant Park, Chicago, Illinois - Next Date (August 5-7, 2011)
Lollapalooza is a three-day festival that boasts over 100 bands. The genres represented the most in this festival are: alternative rock, hip hop, and punk rock. Single day tickets are $80, while three-day passes are between $175 and $205, depending on when you purchase them. The headliners for this years festival are rumored to include: Eminem, MUSE, and Foo Fighters. This years full lineup is expected to be revealed very shortly.
Ozzfest - Nationwide - Unknown
This nationwide festival that caters to hard rock and heavy metal fans has seen a lot of changes in the past few years. In 2007 Ozzy Osbourne announced that all tour dates would be completely free. The following year the nationwide festival was reduced to a one-day event in Frisco, Texas. This years line-up and tour dates are yet to be announced.
Projekt Revolution - Nationwide - Hiatus
This music festival hosted by Linkin Park has been going off and on since 2002. The genres represented in this festival are: nu metal, hip hop, and alternative rock. Performers have included: Cypress Hill, Mudvayne, Xzibit, Korn, Snoop Dogg, The Used, My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, HIM, Chris Cornell, The Bravery, and many more. No tour dates have been listed for this year, but they usually correspond with new album releases for Linkin Park.
Rock Fest - Cadott, Wisconsin - Next Date (July 14 - 17, 2011)
This rock festival in North Central Wisconsin boasts a great line-up of rock bands over four days. Last years festival boasted 17 bands, including: Apocalyptica, Theory of a Deadman, Daughtry, 3 Doors Down, Blue October, John Mellencamp, Trapt, Drowning Pool, Limp Bizkit, Alice in Chains, and many more. This years festival includes 25 acts, including: Three Days Grace, Rob Zombie, Saliva, Kid Rock, Chevelle, Avenged Sevenfold, Tesla, Heart, Def Leppard, and several more. Campsites are located on the festival grounds so that you can immerse yourself in this four-day event.
Rock on the Range - Columbus Crew Stadium, Columbus, Ohio - Next Date (May 21 -22, 2011)
This rock festival has been running for 5 years now and has been growing each and every year. Initially a one-day event, the festival now encompasses two days of music and in 2009 added a Rock on the Range Canada, for those in the Winnipeg, Manitoba area. Concert perfomers in the past have included: Papa Roach, Chevelle, Three Days Grace, ZZ Top, Stone Temple Pilots, Slipknot, Evanescence, Godsmack, Rob Zombie, Limp Bizkit, Rise Against, Deftones and much more. This years line-up calls for over 40 bands, including: A Perfect Circle, Disturbed, Korn, Hollywood Undead, Stone Sour, Staind, and many more
Summerfest - Milwaukee, Wisconsin - Next Date ( Late June - Early/Mid July , 2011)
This is the worlds largest music festival. The 2010 festival took place over 11 days, with 11 stages, and over 800 bands. Headliners for last years festival included: Tim McGraw, Lady Antebellum, Colbie Caillat, Sheryl Crow, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, ZZ Top, and Carrie Underwood. The line-up for this years festival is constantly updated, but currently includes: Peter Gabriel, Meat Loaf, Saving Abel, Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Toby Keith, Def Leppard, The Black Keys, Florence + The Machine, Katy Perry, and hundreds more.
Sonshine Festival - Willmar, Minnesota - Next Date (July 13 - 16, 2011)
This four-day festival takes place during the second weekend of July. Sonshine Festival is a Christian/Family Music Festival. Prices for this festival are very reasonable with the full event costing between 65 and 85 dollars, depending on the time of purchase. 2009 perfomers included: Switchfoot, Relient K, Skillet, Thousand Foot Krutch, As I Lay Dying and many more. Last year roughly 50 bands performed, including: Skillet and Thousand Foot Krutch. This years artists include: Newsboys, Skillet, Switchfoot, Anberlin, The Afters, and many more.
Warped Tour - Nationwide - Varied Dates
This summer long punk rock, ska, and hip-hop festival started in 1995 and has been rocking out ever since. Over 100 bands are played last years Warped Tour, although most bands you probaly have never heard of. Performers from recent years have included: Gym Class Heroes, Story of the Year, Paramore, 30 Seconds to Mars, The Offspring, New Found Glory, Sum 41, and many more. This years Warped Tour will include: 3OH!3, Gym Class Heroes, MC Lars, Relient K, Simple Plan, The Ready Set, Unwritten Law, Yelawolf, and many more.
WE Fest - Detroit Lakes, Minnesota - Next Date (August 4 - 6, 2011)
This three-day festival is one of the biggest country music festivals in the nation. Some of the biggest country singers perform each an every year. Tickets typically sell-out fast, so if you plan on attending this festival purchase your tickets well in advance. Last years performers included: Kid Rock, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Dierks Bentley, Gretchen Wilson. This years line-up includes: Sugarland, Rascal Flatts, Brad Paisley, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Darius Rucker, Willie Nelson, The Charlie Daniels Band, and several more.
